TEXAS BIRDS: Judy & I spent the last week of April 2006 birding the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.  It was great fun.  We had lots of nice photo ops and picked up around 18 lifers.  Click on TEXAS BIRDS to see the photos.

BABY COOTS: These little guys are hard to resist!

SANDHILL CRANE ENCOUNTER:  In Spring 2005, I stumbled onto a Sandhill Crane family quite by accident.

SPRING IN FLORIDA: We visited Florida in April 2005. Wading birds were really getting into it, as can be seen from this batch of ROOKERY ROMANCE photos. Other fun Florida birds seen on this trip are HERE.

GREATER SAGE-GROUSE LEK: For the avian version of a singles bar, this is the place!  These photos were taken at the Henefer Lek on March 29, 2005.  Click on the picture and enjoy!

GOSHUTE HAWKWATCH TRIP: On October 2, 2004, I led a Great Salt Lake Audubon Society field trip to observe migrating raptors.

BUFFALO BIRD. I took this picture on September 8, 2004, on Antelope Island.  There were actually about 4 sparrowsize nondescript birds keeping this roadside bison company.  My guess is juvenile cowbirds.  If you think they're something different, please let me know.  It's a funny picture, just the same.  Click on the thumbnail to see a larger picture.

UTAH BIRDING AIDS & INFORMATION: decision trees and tables for beginning and intermediate birders to help in bird identification.  Much of this material was developed by Dennis Shirley in his Utah County birding classes, and he has given me permission to use it on my Website.  I hope to continue to add material in the future.  The Flycatcher Cheat Sheet is a new addition, authored by Frank Howe of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
