(Lophodytes cucullatus)
The Hooded Merganser is one of my favorite birds, particularly when the males are vying for the female's attention. I took these pictures in March 2009 from my deck overlooking the pond in Penfield New York. There were 4 males and 1 female, and the guys were definitely showing off!
